Bardo Thödol

This framed mask reveals the face of a Tibetan monk, emerging as if from a cave where silence has weight and time dissolves. Rendered as a portrait yet worn like a threshold, the mask suggests a presence caught between worlds. Eastern glyphs drift around him—marks of sound, breath, and meaning—while a miniature Bardo Thödol, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, anchors the composition. Together they map the unseen terrain of transition: life, death, and the luminous pause in between. The cave becomes the bardo itself, a place of inward travel rather than escape. Framed and stilled, the monk does not instruct; he witnesses. The piece invites contemplation of impermanence, reminding the viewer that emergence is not only physical, but spiritual—an awakening shaped by awareness, release, and the courage to pass through.
